I had a really bad day a couple of days ago. I woke up late. I went to the office without proper preparation. I opened the e-mail and got a very frustrating Quest from my boss. I was overly sensitive towards almost everything. My team was not doing their job properly. Another team we work with kept nagging me with a server bug that had been around for months. Right before lunch-time, I hid in the empty Musholla (a small room fellow Moslems use to pray) and cried.
It was a dreadful 4 hours.

I always love AAG (Agate Alliance Gathering), a quarterly meeting where all crews from my office and its alliances gather in one place… to speak up about their dreams, goals and plans. The theme of the latest AAG was Culture and Philosophies.
You see, Agate is an almost-4-year-old game studio. We are in ongoing process of building our own culture. The goal is simple: To build a company that stands for centuries.
Okay, it is not that simple, hahaha…
The CEO, Arief Widhiyasa, is a great leader. He encourages us to have ATL (above the line) mentalities and to avoid BTL (below the line) mentalities.
Find out which ones you have!

Remember my article about tough decision published in September 2012? It was a case I and the other managers had to solve. Here is the answer you have been waiting for.
Well, go on!

Leadership is often seen as a trait or a quality associated to managers and business leaders of corporations or organizations. It actually belongs to everyone living in this societal world. In certain life situations, I am–as well as you are–required to have a strong leadership. Especially when we have to make tough decisions.
What the heck am I talking about?
Oooh… I want a house with a view like this! ^.^
I am currently in Lembang, a beautiful remote area in Bandung. As one of Agate‘s 15 core leaders, I am learning about several business processes and philosophies, including The Toyota Way. We are also discussing cases of management problem and trying to solve them. Amazing time indeed!
A wise man builds his home on a solid rock.
Agate is much more than merely an office where I get my monthly paycheck from. It is a ‘fun home,’ and I am responsible for building it on a solid rock called ‘company’s philosophy and values.’ Wish me luck! ^.^
Here is a kinda weird sudden realization about doing what I love for work.
My work requires me to write A LOT. It is fun, I love it. Yet, there are challenges to meet: Targets, meetings, reports. Add a touch of each tiny disaster as urgent unplanned changes, co-workers nagging for help, bosses rejecting strategy plans, and voila! I have got the perfect recipe for ‘Job Stress.’
At a point of time in the day… When I am so sick of writing MoMs, that is when my brain needs to refresh. When writing a press release takes hours it gives me headache, that is the cue that my nerves needs to be loosened.
I need a break. From work. From writing.
So, what do I do during break time?
See the irony?
Now I see why my fiancee, a game programmer, codes for fun on Sundays.
(and yes, this blog post is written after I just finished writing through all of one day’s Quests.)
