No Bad Day, Thank You

I had a really bad day a couple of days ago. I woke up late. I went to the office without proper preparation. I opened the e-mail and got a very frustrating Quest from my boss. I was overly sensitive towards almost everything. My team was not doing their job properly. Another team we work with kept nagging me with a server bug that had been around for months. Right before lunch-time, I hid in the empty Musholla (a small room fellow Moslems use to pray) and cried.

It was a dreadful 4 hours.

Above or Below the Line?

I always love AAG (Agate Alliance Gathering), a quarterly meeting where all crews from my office and its alliances gather in one place… to speak up about their dreams, goals and plans. The theme of the latest AAG was Culture and Philosophies.

You see, Agate is an almost-4-year-old game studio. We are in ongoing process of building our own culture. The goal is simple: To build a company that stands for centuries.

Okay, it is not that simple, hahaha…

The CEO, Arief Widhiyasa, is a great leader. He encourages us to have ATL (above the line) mentalities and to avoid BTL (below the line) mentalities.

Remember my article about tough decision published in September 2012? It was a case I and the other managers had to solve. Here is the answer you have been waiting for.
Well, go on!

Bye, 2012! Hi, 2013!

Gosh. I hope it is not too late to say, “Happy New Year! May the Force be with you!” ^.^

Last year was a great year. The best year in my life, in fact. And 2013 will absolutely be a blast!

Let’s see…

October Challenge: Waking Up Early

Good morning from Bandung! (pic by ssedro, license: CC BY-SA 2.0)

Last night I made a list. Of all habits I’m willing to have.

Recently I had an odd encounter with a long-time-forgotten habit that I thought I should not have done any longer.

Lemme share it with you.

An Affirmation: I am Organized

Starting from NOW, I am ready to live an organized life.

I notice 4 areas of my life where I have been too messy:

  1. Home
  2. Work
  3. Lifestyle, including health
  4. Finance

I am re-thinking about everything. It is way past those years when I could recklessly say, “You know what? I’ll just live for today. Tomorrow? Meh.” When I am fully recovered from dengue fever, I will immediately work on planning goals and strategies to achieve them, including organizational systems that might help me.

Dr. Seuss on Making Decisions

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…

A Tough Decision, Can You Make It?

Pic by Alexander Henning Drachmann

Leadership is often seen as a trait or a quality associated to managers and business leaders of corporations or organizations. It actually belongs to everyone living in this societal world. In certain life situations, I am–as well as you are–required to have a strong leadership. Especially when we have to make tough decisions.

What the heck am I talking about?

Building My ‘Fun Home’ on a Rock

Oooh… I want a house with a view like this! ^.^

I am currently in Lembang, a beautiful remote area in Bandung. As one of Agate‘s 15 core leaders, I am learning about several business processes and philosophies, including The Toyota Way. We are also discussing cases of management problem and trying to solve them. Amazing time indeed!

A wise man builds his home on a solid rock.

Agate is much more than merely an office where I get my monthly paycheck from. It is a ‘fun home,’ and I am responsible for building it on a solid rock called ‘company’s philosophy and values.’ Wish me luck! ^.^
